    Recent French/Francophone Activities
    Spring 2015
The French students and members of the French Club kicked off the Spring with a post Mardi Gras celebration for all of the French classes. A cultural presentation was given to explain the origins of Mardi Gras and students explored how Mardi Gras and the Carnival season were celebrated through the French-speaking/Francophone world. The festivities included food and of course music and dancing!!!

March 5th, we celebrated Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable, the founder of Chicago. For the occasion, the French students had guest speakers from the DuSable Heritage Association: Drs. M. Ewa and Pierre-Louis. We discussed the life and accomplishments of DuSable as well as the presence and influences of early French explorers in the Midwest.

CSU French students enjoyed hearing about the role of theater in Congo, Mujomba’s experiences as a controversial writer, exile and issues of translation of his works. We ended with a little glass of French wine and of course African dancing!! After all, it was an African soirée!!!

    Global Classroom Project
    Hello World! Global Classroom Project
    French/English Language Project
Facilitated by Mesdames Evelyne Delgado-Norris(Chicago, Illinois) and Sylvie Dubourg(Toulouse, France)
The Global Classroom project in the Foreign Language Program aims to connect foreign language learners across the globe to practice language skills, but also engage in the exchange of cultural information and increase global understanding and intercultural competency skills.
The French students in the Conversational Course (French 2560) and FLL 2500 (Study Abroad Prep) have been matched with a sister class in Toulouse (France). Students have been corresponding in French & in English (our counterparts also want to practice their English skills) on topics of interest. We are getting to know our respective cities a little bit better as well as discovering more about life and schooling in France in general. At the end of the semester, we will have a videoconference with our sister classroom.
Bravo! For connecting with new friends!
